The Nemanet Method

Nemanet is the product of Ásta Kristrún's 30 years career as a student councelor. She developed her ideas of successful and productive study methods at the University of Iceland and then developed them further with younger students.

Her Nemanet Method has proved to be of valuable help to a wide range of students pursuing different subjects at different educational levels.

Below Ásta explains the functions of Nemanet's key modules and the motives and purpose they serve in the process of goal oriented studies.

Subject

The Subject area is for Encoding which means defining the grid for a proper placement in one´s mind for the study material being worked on.

Creating  grids and levels keep the user on the track to a solid structure in line with the need and function of the human brain.

Notes

The Notes area is designed to have the reader remain in a focused state of mind by confirming his/her understanding during the study process.
By confirming and expressing new topics simultaneously, rational processing takes place.

This also results in an important insight into how different subject relate to each other internally.

Expressing and reframing while working through complicated text and study material, has proven to lead to a thorough understanding and strengthen one´s ability to use and deliver knowledge at times when needed.

A durable understanding of the subject matter strengthens the associative function of the memory and helps to transition information from the short-term into the long-term memory.

Glossary

Maintenance of memory is an important step in the learning process. When an understanding of the subject matter has been achieved, it is possible to strengthen the memory and speed up the retrieval process of the mind with purposeful training.

Glossary is the Nemanet memory training tool where keywords connected to Concepts and Facts are stored in the left field and Definitions and Anwers having been processed in Notes are stored in the right field.

The glossary has several display options for the reviewing process with the aim of reinforcing the user’s memory.
The simultaneous use of Notes and Glossary compensate each other and as a pair stimulate an effective learning process.

The memory has qualities that are predicated on a so-called “associative function”. Keywords are used to retrieve information from specific subject matters.

A well-chosen keyword, which is created during the process of understanding and reasoning, expedites the retrieval process that produces information related to that keyword.

Library

Concentration and continious flow of studying is of big value for the students‘ effectivness. Searching for different files that have not been stored systematically can easily affect the flow of studying, distract and diminish ongoing concentration.

Increased use of internet distributing all kinds of studymaterials such as powerpoints, reccomendet articles, e- books and material found by the student himself can easely turn into chaos.

The Nemanet Library is designed such that everytime the student creates a subject or a sub-topic, an identical Library vault is automatically created.

Retrieving „outside“ material relavant to the content of the topic involved, the Nemanet storagebox is there for the user as a tank waiting to be filled.

This hinders interuption of the precious flow of study and concentration caused by a searsh for material somewhere in „the woods“.

The Nemanet Library Module is a useful safety measure and effective „preorganizing tool“ when saving files and linking them with one‘s  working zone.
